Saad Rafique challenges tribunal verdict on NA-125 in SC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique on Thursday challenged verdict of the Election Tribunal in NA-125 case in the Supreme Court.

In his petition, the former Railway Minister maintained that charges of rigging against him have not been proved and the judgment may be overturned.

On Monday, an election tribunal in response to a petition filed by Hamid Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) annulled results of the 2013 election held in Lahore’s NA-125 constituency and ordered a re-poll on the seat won by Saad Rafique

The tribunal observed that massive irregularities and negligence were found during polling in NA-125 constituency.

Saad Rafique had secured 123,416 votes while his opponent Hamid Khan bagged 84,495 votes.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification of annulment of Khawaja Saad Rafique’s membership from the National Assembly.
