A rocket has been launched into space by South Korea in its 3rd attempt to place in satellite from its own soil.
The latest development on Wednesday came weeks after North Korea successfully used its own three-stage rocket to place a satellite into orbit.
The footage taken from television live showed the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1) blasting off from the Naro Space Center at 16:00 (07:00 GMT).
S Korean previous attempts in 2009 and 2010 failed to launch; last-minute technical problems forced two recent efforts in October and November to be aborted.
The latest, and final, attempt comes amid increased tension on the Korean Peninsula over North Korea’s threat to explode its third nuclear device.
So far the country has spent nearly half a billion dollars on its Naro space programme.
