MOSCOW: The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State John Kerry and said that the United States should refrain from hasty and reckless decisions over Ukraine that would deteriorate US-Russia relations.
Lavrov said that any sanctions introduced by the US against Russia will have a boomerang effect, urging Washington to steer away from actions that could hurt relations between the countries.
The Russian foreign minister “warned against hasty and reckless steps capable of causing harm to Russian-American relations, particularly… sanctions, which would inevitably hit the United States like a boomerang,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement issued after the phone conversation.
On Thursday, the United States imposed visa restrictions on Russian and Crimeans who they accuse of threatening Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity.
In a statement, the White House said that US President Barack Obama has signed an executive order authorizing sanctions against “individuals and entities responsible for activities undermining democratic processes or institutions in Ukraine.”
