Rouhani hopes better relations with Saudi Arabia

Monitoring Desk: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that he hoped for better relations with Saudi Arabia.

While talking to a selective gathering of journalists in New York, he said that Iran and Saudi Arabia while narrowing their difference should come closer.

Reuters reports Rouhani said:

“Our relationship with Saudi Arabia … deserves to be warmer,” Rouhani told a group of senior editors in New York ahead of the annual gathering of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly. “Saudi Arabia’s positions are getting closer and closer to us.”

It may be mentioned that Hassan Rouhani sent a congratulatory message on the National Day of Saudi Arabia on September 22 and expressed the hope for the expansion of relations between Tehran and Riyadh

According to Iranian media, in a Monday message to Saudi King Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud, President Rouhani congratulated Saudi Arabia’s government and nation on the National Day. He also hoped for closer ties between the two Muslim countries in light of “unity and rapport” and by tapping into the “deep-rooted religious, cultural and historical commonalities” between the two nations.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
