FAISALABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to get help from army and Ranger jawans for maintaining law and order during second phase of local bodies elections to be held on November 19, 2015.
In a statement, a spokesman for the ECP said on Wednesday that after successful holding of LB elections first phase, arrangements were being completed rapidly to hold second phase of LB polls in 12 districts of Punjab.
The spokesman said that it was decided to depute army and Ranger Jawans in sensitive areas.
The second phase of local bodies elections will be held on November 19, 2015 in including Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahaud Din, Attock and Jehlum.
Earlier, the first phase of LB polls in 12 districts of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar and 8 districts of Sindh was held on October 31, 2015.
The polls by and large remained peaceful; however, a few violent incidents also occurred especially in Faisalabad and Khairpur where more than 10 people lost their lives in fighting between rival groups.
The polling was also suspended in couple of constituencies of both provinces after the situation turned violent due to clashes between workers of candidates.
