ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the proposed schedule for the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh, according to which polls in two provinces would take place on October 12.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ECP said that polling for first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh would be held on October 12, 2015.

The nomination papers would be filed with the Returning Officers (ROs) from August 28 to September 1 while the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from September 3 to 8, according to the proposed election schedule.

The last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the ROs and appeals would be decided by September 12 and 17 respectively. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 18 and final list of candidates would be published on September 19.

The ECP said that the first phase of Punjab local bodies elections would be held in 12 districts which include Lodhran, Vehari, Okara, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Toba Tek Sindh, Sargodha, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Rawalpindi and Attock.

Likewise, the 13 Sindh districts where polls would be held in the first phase are Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Qamber Shahdadkot.

The Commission said that the election schedule for second and third phases would be announced shortly.

The local government elections in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Cantonment areas have already been held.

KPK LG polls official results announced

Meanwhile, the official results of the local government elections held on May 30 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been announced according the which, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leads with 395 candidates elected to the district councils.

The Jamiat-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) occupies the second position with 132 winning candidates while the Awami National Party (ANP) is at number three with 128 candidates. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) 118 candidates were elected to the district councils.

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) candidates secured 65 while 51 candidates of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were elected to the district councils.

Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
