LAHORE: The Provincial Election Commission will decide the selection of caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab after a six-member parliamentary committee failed to evolve a consensus in this regard, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaulla told media after the meeting that the committee has decided to refer the issue to the ECP. “We will accept the decision of the Election Commission,” he said.

In the committee, the ruling PML-N was represented by former ministers Rana Sanaullah, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Iqbal Chunnar, while the opposition PPP and PML-Q was represented by Shaukat Basra, Zulfiqar Gondal and Chaudhry Zaheer.

During three days of talks, the committee deliberated over four nominees for the post of the interim chief minister of Punjab two each by the government and the opposition.

The PML-N proposed names of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan and former bureaucrat Khuwaja Zaheer while the opposition suggested names of senior journalist and political commentator ,Najam Sethi,  and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
