Punjab govt requests to postpone by-poll in NA-149 Multan

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government has requested the provincial election commission to postpone by-election in NA-149 Multan due to security concerns.

However, the Punjab election commission has reportedly opposed the request, stating that all preparations for the by-election have been completed.

The by-election for NA-149 Multan-II is scheduled to be held on October 16.

The seat fell vacant after the resignation of the former President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Javed Hashmi on September 2.

Hashmi would contest the by-election from NA-149 as an independent candidate; however, he would have a full support of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
