PTI, PAT protests: Nawaz Sharif hopes normalcy will return in few days

LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government is trying its best to resolve the current political crises and hoped that normalcy will return in a few days.

Talking to media in Lahore on Saturday, the prime minister said that the ongoing sit-ins of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Islamabad have affected public life and the national economy.

The prime minister said that due to these sit-ins two heads of states postponed their visits to Islamabad while he himself could not attend the oath taking ceremony of the Turkish president.

The Chinese president is due to visit Islamabad shortly to launch a number of mega projects for the development of Pakistan but if the sit-ins continue this important visit could also be postponed, he said.

Sharif reiterated that said few thousand marchers will not be allowed to overrun the mandate of millions of Pakistani people. He said that the National Assembly has passed a resolution that no conspiracy against democracy will be allowed to succeed and the government is determined to implement this resolution as it is the voice of the people.

The premier further said that the government has accepted demands of the protesters regarding reforms in the electoral system.
