ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday named its lawmaker in the National Assembly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gulzar Khan as its representative in the government committee for talks with the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-nominated negotiating team.
On March 6, the federal government decided to dissolve its committee which included Irfan Siddqui, Major (retd) Amir, Rustam Shah Mohmand and Rahimullah Yousufzai and form a new committee to represent it in the talks with committee nominated by the TTP.
The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan made a telephonic contact with the TTP Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday and discussed matter of peace talks with the TTP in their conversation.
On Thursday, Nisar told the National Assembly that a new government negotiating team was being constituted to hold negotiations with the Taliban committee.
The interior minister said that direct peace negotiations would be held with the other side to make the process resulted-oriented.
The sources said that the new committee would include representatives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Army, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other stakeholders. The committee would also receive decision-making powers, the sources added.
