PoliticsPTI contested NA Speaker election to promote democratic norms: Qureshi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday said that PTI decided to contest election for promoting democratic norms and traditions in the country.

Talking to media outside Parliament House, he said that PTI had a clear assessment that PML-N candidate would ultimately win the election of Speaker and added difference of opinion was the hallmark of democracy.

Shah Mehmood said that main political partied had decided to support Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the slot of Speaker and PTI did contest the election to further strengthen democratic system.

To a question, he said that major decisions need to be taken in the Parliament and now the PTI has decided to highlight importance of the Parliament in letter and spirit.

Shah Mehmood said that PTI had no difference with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq rather it was opposed to current flawed electoral system which had also been identified by 22 other political parties.

He said that PTI wanted such an electoral system in which winning candidate may receive congratulations but defeated one should have no reservation on any account.

Shah Mehmood paid tributes to Sheikh Rashid, Jamshed Dasti and party legislators for casting their votes in favour of PTI’s candidate without taking pressure in this regard.
