Probe underway into Faisalabad’s firing incident: Interior ministry

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal interior ministry said on Tuesday that an investigation is underway speedily into yesterday’s Faisalabad incident that left one Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist dead.

The severe clashes erupted in Faisalabad on Monday between the PTI the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers when the PTI workers took to streets in the city as a part of protests against 2013 general elections rigging.

A 22-year-old PTI activist Haq Nawaz was killed while several others injured in the clashes.

On Monday evening, a case was registered against the state minister for water and power Abid Sher Ali and former law minister in Punjab Rana Sanaullah among 300 people for the murder of PTI activist Haq Nawaz.

The first information report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of Nawaz’s brother Attaullah.

In a statement on Tuesday, the spokesman of the ministry of interior said that no final evidence regarding firing has been received yet.

The spokesman urged media not to telecast the name of any person without confirmation as it is impacting the investigations.

The PTI is also observing a day of mourning on Tuesday in protest against the killing of its activist in Faisalabad on Monday.

The activists of the political party are holding a protest at the Mall road in Lahore in protest against the death of Haq Nawaz.

The sources said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MQM) workers have also joined the PTI in the protest.
