ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that influential figures involved in corrupt practices should be given exemplary punishment.
In his address at a seminar on accountability and good governance in Islamabad on Monday, the president while calling for strict action against corrupt elements directed the concerned departments to gear up efforts against corruption.
The president also called for restructuring of public sector departments for better service delivery, saying it will bring transparency and restore confidence of people.
Mamnoon Hussain said that the federal and provincial governments should also introduce e-governance to cut their expenditures and ensure early solution of problems faced by the common man.
Earlier in his remarks, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that latest technology should be used to improve governance.
The advisor said that the alleviation of poverty and unemployment will help address the issues of extremism and terrorism. He expressed the confidence that the effective policies adopted by the government will help achieve five to six percent growth rate.
