LAHORE, Pakistan: The President Daska Bar Association Rana Khalid Abbas among two lawyers were killed when a clash occurred with police in Daska tehsil of Punjab’s Sialkot district on Monday, triggering a strong protest by lawyers.

The sources said that officials of Daska Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) along with the Station House Office (SHO) of Daska city police station Shehzad Warraich were conducting an anti-encroachment drive in Daska tehsil when local residents and lawyers staged a protest to seek more time from authorities.

In order to disperse the protestors, the SHO opened straight fire which resulted in injuries to six persons including President Daska Bar Association Rana Khalid Abbas and another lawyer Irfan Chauhan.

The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital Daska where Rana Khalid Abbas and Irfan Chauhan succumbed to their injuries while getting medical treatment.

Following the incident, lawyers gathered outside the Punjab assembly in Lahore to register their protest against killings of members of the legal fraternity. They also blocked the Mall road for traffic.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Bar Council announced two days of complete strike over Daska incident.

On the other hand, the Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of clash between lawyers and police in Daska and sought a report from RPO Gujranwala.

The chief minister also expressed sorrow and grief over the death of Daska Bar President Rana Khalid Abbas and directed that the injured should be provided best possible medical facilities.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
