Power, gas crises to be completely overcome within few years: PM

LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the government will completely overcome power and gas crises in the country within a couple of years.

In his address to the Pakistani community in London, the prime minister said that another 21,000 megawatt of electricity will be added to the national grid within next eight to ten years.

The prime minister said that Diamer Bhasha and Dassu dams will contribute around 9,000 megawatt of electricity. He said that the government will construct Diamer Bhasha Dam from its own resources if it does not receive foreign assistance.

Sharif said that effective economic policies of the government have restored investors’ confidence.

In addition, he said that the government’s expenditures have been slashed by 30 percent. He said that tax recovery has been increased by 16 percent while the remittances have witnessed 12 percent surge.

The country’s growth ratio will be doubled within next three years, the premier added.
