Political parties express consent over formation of judicial commission

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday took the political leadership into confidence on the establishment of the judicial commission to probe alleged election rigging in May 2013.

In his address while chairing a meeting of leaders from all political parties in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister said that he believes in taking all political forces on board on matters of national interest.

The prime minister said that the agreement of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the judicial commission is an encouraging development.

Sharif said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wants political parties to resolve their issues through dialogue among themselves.

On the occasion, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the meeting about matters pertaining to the judicial commission.

The political leadership expressed satisfaction over the formula adopted for the formation of judicial commission.

On March 20 after a meeting with the PTI leadership, the PML-N agreed to form the long-awaited judicial commission on the PTI’s request to probe irregularities and alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has opposed the formation of the judicial commission as it’s a ‘violation of articles 225 and 189 of the constitution’.

Talking to media in Islamabad on Tuesday, the MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar there is no room for the judicial commission in the constitution.
