Lahore: Veteran journalist and anchorperson Imtiaz Alam has resigned from Express News channel. It may be mentioned that anchorperson of Express News Raza Rumi was attacked in Lahore and his driver was killed in this incident. After this incident Raza Rumi did not appear on this channel and insiders claim that Raza Rumi was asked by owners to change his stance on certain senstive issues as they cannot take risk of more attacks on this channel. Raza Rumi preferred to go jome instead of compromising on his stance.

“I resigned today from Express Tv in protest over their anti freedom of expression and against media freedom”, indicated a sms message of Imtiaz Alam. He was not available to comment but insiders claim that Imtiaz Alam was asked to send his show for censor before onair and certain quarters were not happy with candid comments of Imtiaz Alam over certain elements. “Imtiaz Alam was asked to low down his tone on certain issues including attack on anchorperson and journalist Hamid Mir but he was not ready to follow instructions against media and journalist community and this standoff aggravated situation and Imtiaz Alam also preferred to resign instead of changing his stance over freedom of express”, said an insider. It may be mentioned that Imtiaz Alam also got life threats recently and national media strongly protested against life threats given to Imtiaz Alam.

Imtiaz Alam is known for his stance over freedom of press and freedom of expression and never compromised on these issues.
