PakistanPML-N withdraws Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan's candidature for caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced on Friday that the name of Justice (retd) Shakirullah Jan has been withdrawn from the opposition’s list of nominees for caretaker prime minister, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Talking to media, Nisar said he would write a letter to Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in which only two names – Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Rasool Bux Palejo – would be proposed again.

Nisar said that there would be no compromise on the caretaker prime minister and chief minister of Punjab. He added that he had objections over the names proposed by the government.

“One nominee was the finance minister 15 days ago, Justice (retd) Khoso was close to Benazir Bhutto and Ishrat Husain does not meet the criteria for caretaker PM,” he said.

The government has proposed the names of Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Dr Ishrat Husain and Justice (retd) Hazar Khan Khoso.

The sources said that the PML-N will push Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for caretaker prime minister if the issue of appointment is sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
