PML-N tries to convince PTI to call off long march

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE, Pakistan: In order to convince the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to call off its long march scheduled for August 14, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has made a contact with the PTI’s leadership.

In a statement, the prime minister’s political secretary Dr Asif Kirmani said that some of our party leaders are in touch with the PTI leaders for holding a dialogue in order to call off their long march.

Kirmani said that the government’s door was open for talks with the PTI and that party chief Imran Khan was requested to discuss issues on a dialogue table instead of launching the long march.

Earlier, in his address at a function organized to start celebrations of the Independence Day in Lahore on Friday, the federal minister for railway Khawaja Saad Rafique said that it is time to get united and issues cannot be resolved through protests and sit-ins.

The minister that those involved in politics of hatred would not succeed and issues must be resolved through talks.

Rafique said that the country is passing through a critical phase and more problems should not be created. He said that we would try to handle long march issue by involving political fraternity.

In addition, he said that doors of talks in politics always remained open and there is nothing inappropriate in holding talks for the betterment of the country.
