LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday rejected the white paper issued by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan over alleged rigging in May 11, 2013 elections.

Imran Khan was trying to influence by-polls, the PML-N spokesman Asim Khan said in a statement. He appealed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of Imran Khan press conference.

The PML-N spokesman Khan said the government had formed a parliamentary committee to investigate allegations of rigging in general elections.

Earlier, the PTI chief Imran Khan Imran Khan released 2, 500 Paged “White Paper” against alleged rigging in the May 11 general elections.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, the PTI chief said that if the Election Commission of Pakistan failed to conduct free, fair and transparent by-elections, then the commission would itself be responsible for the consequences.

Imran Khan was of the view that his party was not prepared for any alleged rigging during the May 11 general elections as the election process was conducted under an independent judiciary and the Election Commission of Pakistan. He indicated that 400 petitions were filed in the election tribunals over rigging in the general elections, adding that out of aforementioned petitions 64 were filed by his party.

“We are not the only party which said that rigging took place during the elections,” said Imran.

The PTI chief termed the role of some Returning Offices (RO) during the general elections as shameful, stating that one RO had admitted to corruption during the polling process.
