Recent PostPM says comprehensive energy policy prepared

JEDDAH: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says the government has prepared a roadmap to address the energy issue.

Talking to Pakistan Journalists Forum in Jeddah‚ he said difference between supply and demand of the electricity will be overcome within three to four years.

He said the government has also embarked upon a plan to run thermal power plants on coal to produce cheaper electricity.

The Prime Minister said his government is making progress on Thar Coal Power Project and focussing on constructing new dams.

He said had the previous government taken measures to control the energy crisis‚ the situation would have been different today.

He said the government measures to check line losses and electricity theft have yielded positive results.

Referring to economic problems of the country‚ Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said the foremost priority of his government is to boost economic activities in the country.

To a question‚ the Prime Minister said the government is willing to take all measures to check the menace of terrorism and root out sectarianism.

He said Pakistan and India should resolve their disputes through talks for the benefit of their people.

The Prime Minister said that instead of spending hugely on arms‚ both the countries should focus on investing on social infrastructure.

About recently announced Gwadar-Kashghar economic corridor‚ he said special industrial zones would be set up in Gwadar to facilitate foreign investors.

Nawaz Sharif said the development of Gwadar Port and the proposed economic corridor would change the dynamics of the region and the project would help boost economic activities in the region.
