PM Nawaz summons national security conference on Saturday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned a national security conference in Islamabad on Saturday, during which he will be briefed about the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against the militants in the North Waziristan tribal region and the internal security situation.

The conference will be attended by the four chief ministers, federal ministers, Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam.

In a statement, the prime minister’s special assistant Irfan Siddique said that Zarb-e-Azb is the only agenda of the national security conference and it would not discuss political situation.

Siddique said that the prevailing political situation has nothing to do with the conference.

The special assistant said that the senior military leadership will brief the participants about progress and achievements of the operation Zarb-e-Azb.
