PM Nawaz resolves to overcome electricity crisis within three years

QUETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday expressed his government’s resolve to root out electricity crisis in the country within three years.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 404 megawatt Uch Power Project-II in Dera Murad Jamali area of Balochistan on Friday, the prime minister said that provision of cheap electricity is need of the hour.

The prime minister said that multiple energy projects are underway in various parts of the country including Thar, Guddu, Neelum-Jhelum and Nandipur. He also directed the concerned authorities to install new transmission lines for Nasirabad and Sibbi.

Sharif said that the present government is committed to bring socio-economic prosperity in Balochistan province. He said that Balochistan province was neglected in past, but now resources of the province will be utilized for the socio-economic uplift of its own people. He said that provision of domestic gas will be ensured to all cities of the province in next three years.

Talking about Uch-II Power Project, he said that it will help reduce the burden from country’s import bill. Sharif said that soon long-term energy projects including hydel will be initiated soon.

Earlier, the prime minister was received by Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik when he reached Dera Murad Jamali.

The Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali and Senior Provincial Minister Sanaullah Zehri were also present.
