ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will pay a one-day official visit to Afghanistan on Saturday, the foreign ministry has confirmed.
It will be his first visit to Afghanistan after taking the oath of his office following May 11 election victory.
During his visit, the prime minister will meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai and will discuss the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
“He will meet with President Karzai and will discuss issues of mutual interest. Both the leaders will discuss the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan,” the foreign ministry spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said.
The two leaders met last time during a trilateral meeting among Pakistan, Britain and Afghanistan which was held on the sidelines of the 9th meeting of World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in London in October.
During the meeting, the three leaders – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Hamid Karzai and British Prime Minister David Cameron – discussed the situation in a post-withdrawal Afghanistan and ways to secure peace and stability in the region.
