PM Nawaz chairs meeting to review rain and flood situation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a meeting held in Islamabad on Saturday to review rain and flood situation and damage caused to life and property by rains and resulting floods in various parts of the country.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that the death and destruction caused by rains and floods is a great loss for the country and the government would leave no stone unturned to help the people in distress.

The prime minister said that the armed forces and provincial authorities are doing a commendable job in relief and rescue operations and asked the ministers and parliamentarians to visit their areas and make sure the relief activities are carried out smoothly.

Sharif directed that evacuation of people and livestock should be carried out immediately while all national highways opened for traffic by tonight.

Rains and flashfloods kill 110, injure 148 so far

The Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Muhammad Saeed Aleem briefed the meeting and said that rains resulted in flashfloods in Azad Jammu & Kashmir as well as in north-east Punjab.

The Chairman NDMA said that So far rains have caused 110 deaths in Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In addition, 148 people have also been injured while 650 houses have completely been destroyed.
