ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that the tax regime be reformed and structured in such a way that facilitates businesses and helps the economy to grow.

While chairing a meeting regarding tax reforms in Islamabad on Friday, the prime minister said that the objective of tax reforms is to make the tax code simple and plug existing loopholes in the system.

The prime minister said that the tax reforms are aimed at reducing discretionary powers of tax collectors and tax practitioners besides introducing automation to ensure transparency of the tax system.

Imran Khan directed to especially focus on the issue of flying invoices.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiar, the Minister for Finance and Revenues Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, the Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar, the Prime Minister’s Adviser for Institutional Reforms Dr. Ishrat Hussain, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Revenue Dr. Waqar Masood, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Power Tabish Gohar, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, the Chairman Board of Investment (BOI) Atif R. Bokhari and other Senior Officers.
