PM directs to lift ban on recruitment in all civil armed forces

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday chaired a high level meeting to review law and order situation in Karachi, during which he directed to lift ban on recruitment in all civil armed forces.

The prime minister also directed to shift anti-terrorism courts to Malir cantonment to protect witnesses‚ investigators‚ prosecutors and Judges.

During the meeting, it was agreed in-principle that additional police stations would be established in Lyari area of Karachi. He emphasized that recruitments in police should be purely on merit and without any favoritism.

Sharif directed that the Sindh government should expedite establishment of isolated high security prisons for terrorists. He also directed the Sindh government and rangers to take action against land-mafia illegally grabbing state lands.

In addition, he directed the interior ministry to expedite blocking of illegal mobile SIMs and use biometric system for issuance of SIMs.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sindh Dr Eshratul Ibad, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Engr Khurram Dastagir, the Chief Secretary Sindh, Inspector General of Police Sindh and Director General of Intelligence Bureau.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary Sindh briefed the prime minister on the law and order situation in Karachi and apprised him that 393 cases of heinous crimes have been registered.

The prime minister was apprised that illegal migration of foreign nationals was also causing the law and order problem. He was informed that fresh inductions in the police force were needed in order to strengthen the force.
