ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday stressed that peace would remain elusive in the region unless the decades old issue of Kashmir was resolved.

In a meeting with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, the president strongly condemned the ongoing Indian brutalities in the held-Kashmir, and reiterated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic, political and moral support to the oppressed Kashmiris in their struggle against foreign occupation.

The president said that Pakistan would continue to use diplomatic channel to draw the attention of the international community towards grave human rights violations by the Indian security forces.

Mamnoon Hussain also congratulated Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan on his election as the AJK prime minister and hoped that under his sagacious leadership, the newly elected public representatives would work with dedication for the well-being of the people.

President Mamnoon expressed his satisfaction at the successful holding of recent election in AJK and smooth transition of power to the next elected government.

The president urged upon the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government to focus on providing all basic facilities to the people and improve their living standard. He also emphasized on ensuring good governance and transparency in carrying out all development projects and their timely completion.

The AJK prime minister apprised President Mamnoon Hussain about various development initiatives expressed commitment to work devotedly for the welfare of the people of the region.
