Parliamentary leaders to review progress on anti-terror plan on Friday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A meeting of the heads of all parliamentary parties has been convened by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House in Islamabad on Friday.

The meeting will review the progress so far made in implementation of the 20-point national action plan on counter terrorism adopted on December 24 in the wake of the terror attack on the army public school in Peshawar.

During the meeting on Friday, the prime minister will also consult the political leaders to ensure implementation of the plan in letter and spirit for elimination of the scourge from the country.

Under the action plan, it was also decided that special trial courts headed by military officers will be established for swift disposal of terrorism cases.

The sources said that a meeting of parliamentary leaders will also address concerns that have arisen on the matter of military courts.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had earlier extended their support to the military courts. However, both the parties are now reviewing their decisions.

Earlier today, the opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said that there was no discussion about setting up of military courts during the all parties conference held on December 24 rather these were special courts which came into discussion.

However, the opposition leader said, that all parties had agreed to amend the Army act.
