LAHORE: A six-member parliamentary committee of the Punjab Assembly will meet for the second day to evolve a consensus on name for caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab on Monday (today), Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
If the committee fails to reach a decision during its allocated three-day deliberations‚ the matter will be decided by the Election Commission.
The ruling PML-N are being represented by former ministers Rana Sanaullah, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Iqbal Chunnar, while the opposition PPP and PML-Q are being represented by Shaukat Basra, Zulfiqar Gondal and Chaudhry Zaheer.
The committee is deliberating over four nominees for the post of the interim chief minister of Punjab two each by the government and the opposition.
The PML-N proposed names of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan and former bureaucrat Khuwaja Zaheer while the opposition suggested names of senior journalist and political commentator ,Najam Sethi, and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain.
The committee in its first meeting held at the Punjab Assembly on Sunday set rules of business for its proceedings and could not discuss the list of nominees.
The members were, however, optimistic that they would come up with consensus during the remaining two days after that the matter would be referred to the provincial election commission.
