ISLAMABAD: The lawmakers in the National Assembly on Friday condemned the killing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNA Tahira Asif and demanded an investigation into the incident and arrest of the culprits involved in this heinous crime.

The MQM MNA died at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital  late on Thursday night after she was admitted to the hospital in a critical situation following an attack by unidentified motorcyclists in the Iqbal Town area of Lahore earlier in the day.

The parliamentarians expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Tahira Asif and sympathized with the bereaved family. They paid tribute to her and said that she greatly contributed to the proceedings of the house.

The lawmakers stressed the need to root out terrorism from the society for establishment of peace. They said that all parties, military leadership and religious leaders should sit together to formulate a strategy in this regard.

On the occasion, on behalf of the federal and Punjab governments, the minister for defence production Rana Tanveer Hussain assured the house that immediate investigations will be carried out into the incident. He said that the culprits involved in this crime will be arrested and brought to justice.
