LONDON: Pakistani-origin British boxer Amir Khan will tie the knot with his US-born fiancee, Faryal Makhdoom, at a lavish ceremony in New York City today (Friday), while Valima will be held in UK next week.

Extravagant nuptials will be held in Faryal’s hometown, New York, at the grand five star hotel Waldorf Astoria.

“It’s time to settle down and hopefully it will settle me down a bit,” the 26-year-old Amir Khan said.

“We get on really well, and I know she will help me in my boxing career as well. I’m excited more than anything.”

Khan formally engaged to Pakistani-American student Faryal Makhdoom on January 29 in New York. The couple celebrated with a £150,000 bash at the Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium.

The boxing sensation has started a two-hour dance practice session to dance in his own wedding.

The former light welterweight champion will first enjoy his honeymoon with 20-year-old Faryal, and then observe Ramadan before getting back into training for his next bout towards the end of the year.
