Pakistan to work closely with new Afghan leadership: President

KABUL, Afghanistan: President Mamnoon Hussain held separate meetings with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and the Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul, and assured them that Pakistan would work closely with new government in Kabul to promote common goals.

During the meetings, matters relating to the political transition in Afghanistan, Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and regional cooperation were discussed.

The president reaffirmed that peace and stability in Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s vital interest. He stressed the importance Pakistan attaches to friendly and good-neighbourly relations with Afghanistan.1411997332_p

Mamnoon Hussain underscored that both countries must work closely to realize the vast opportunities existing in diverse fields for mutually-beneficial cooperation. He particularly emphasized the importance of a deeper economic relationship and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.

The Afghan leadership thanked President Mamnoon Hussain for his participation in the swearing-in ceremony of Afghanistan’s new President Ashraf Ghani.

The two sides underscored their mutual desire for a relationship marked by trust and understanding, serving the best interests of the two nations.
