Pakistan will not allow use of its soil against any country, says Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan will not allow the use of its soil against any country including Afghanistan.

The prime minister made these remarks during a meeting with the National Security Advisor of the United Kingdom Sir Kim Darroch in Islamabad.

“Pakistan believes in peace and stability and it has no desire to enter into arms race in the region,” the premier emphatically stated. “Pakistan will not allow the use of its soil against any country including Afghanistan.”

The prime minister said that the government’s progressive policies to tackle serious challenges, particularly energy crisis, have started producing positive results. He said that we have also adopted the consensus policy of peace through dialogue to curb terrorism.

The British advisor said that his country supports Pakistan’s internal security objectives. He also expressed confidence in government’s economic policies.

Darroch also held a meeting with the Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and discussed with him bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Asif said that political leadership and armed forces are on one page on all matters including the internal situation of the country. He said that the government wants to give peace a chance.

Talking about drawdown of 2014, the defense minister said that Pakistan wants stable and peaceful Afghanistan.

“Pakistan is trying its best to play a neutral role and normalize relations with all stakeholders and neighbours in the region,” Asif said.

The defence minister said that Pakistan and Britain are progressing through Enhanced Strategic Dialogue covering the entire spectrum of bilateral relations.
