Pakistan wants enhanced trade ties with CA nations: Nawaz Sharif

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is giving priority to expand trade and economic relations with the Central Asian states including Turkmenistan.

His remarks came in a meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held in Ashgabat on Wednesday, shortly after the Pakistani premier reached Turkmenistan on a two-day official visit.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that there exists tremendous potential of cooperation between Pakistan and Turkmenistan in different fields including trade and economy.

The Turkmenistan’s president in his remarks said that both the countries share identical views on regional peace and stability.

The president said that the two countries can enhance cooperation in agriculture, communication, telecommunication and other sectors. He also emphasized the need for greater people to people contacts between the two countries.

The two sides will also hold delegation level talks during which the bilateral cooperation in different sectors including trade will be discussed.

The two countries will also sign a number of agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for cooperation in diverse fields.

Earlier upon his arrival in Ashgabat, Nawaz Sharif was received at the airport by the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. A formal welcome ceremony in honor of the visiting prime minister was held at Azadi Square in Ashgabat.

On Thursday, Nawaz Sharif will go to Kyrgyzstan where he will hold meeting with the Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev in Bishkek.

The two sides will also hold delegation-level talks to discuss issues of mutual cooperation in various fields.

A few MoUs and agreements are likely to be signed between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
