Pakistan wants early implementation of TAPI project: Nawaz Sharif

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan wants early implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project which is beneficial for the entire region.

The Pakistani premier made these remarks during delegation level talks held with the Turkmen side led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat on Wednesday.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed measures to expedite implementation of the TAPI project.

The two sides discussed ways to promote trade and strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, anti-terrorism and anti-narcotics measures. They also discussed measures to enhance connectivity through road and rail networks.

Later addressing a joint news conference following a one-on-one meeting and delegation level talks, the Pakistani premier and the Turkmen president said that they have agreed to promote bilateral trade, tourism and people-to-people contacts.

“Pakistan wants to promote ties with Turkmenistan in all sectors,” Nawaz Sharif, adding that the two countries have identity of views on regional issues.

The prime minister said that they discussed prospects of cooperation to address common challenges.

Sharif further said that Pakistan is giving priority to expand trade and economic relations with the Central Asian states.

Nawaz Sharif accompanied by Federal Ministers Khurram Dastgir, Khawaja Asif, Minister of State Jam Kamal, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Political Secretary to the PM Asif Karmani is currently on a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan.
