Pakistan, US vow to strengthen bilateral security partnership

NEW YORK: Pakistan and the United States have pledged to further strengthen bilateral security partnership viewing it as a factor of regional stability.

The resolve was expressed at a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the US Vice President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

The two leaders recognized constructive role of Pakistan-US strategic dialogue in strengthening bilateral partnership in a broad range of areas including energy, finance, economy and defence.

Both the leaders noted that peace, security and stability in the region is a shared objective and a robust Pakistan-US partnership is critical in achieving these goals.

The prime minister appreciated US contribution to Pakistan’s economic development.

The Pakistani premier and the US Vice President Biden agreed that terrorism is a common threat to Pakistan and the United States.

Sharif reviewed notable successes achieved by Pakistan security forces in dismantling terrorist networks and said that Pakistan’s resolve to defeat terrorism on its soil remains unwavering.
