Pakistan urges US to halt drone attacks in its territory permanently

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has urged the United States to halt drone attacks in its territory permanently to remove a serious irritant in their relationship.

“The six months break in US drone attacks in Pakistan improved the relationship between the two countries and it was appreciated by all segments of the society,” the interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan said in a meeting with a US delegation headed by the US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Daniel Feldman.

“United States should halt drone attacks in Pakistan permanently in order to remove a serious irritant in our relationship,” Nisar said.

The interior minister said that sovereignty and self-respect are the cornerstones of Pakistan’s relationship with other countries.

On the occasion, the US special representative said that US recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices of Pakistan in the war on terror.

Daniel Feldman said that the United States supports democratic institutions in Pakistan and people to people contacts between the two countries will be promoted.
