RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The leadership of the US Senate Committee on Intelligence Thursday acknowledged that Pakistan has turned tide of terrorism and assured the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif of the US support and cooperation in eradicating terrorism and extremism.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Saleem said that the COAS, who is on a five-day visit to the United States, met the US Senate Committee on Intelligence.

Senator Richard Burr and Feinstein noted that Pak Army’s perseverance and commitment had degraded militant Networks in Pakistan.

Generak Raheel Sharif emphasized terrorism a global threat, warrants coordinated global response.

Meanwhile, the US Senate Armed Services Committee received the COAS at Capitol Hill.

Chairman Senate John McCain, Senator Jack Reed and senior senator members were present.

Senator McCain appreciated efforts, sacrifices and steadfastness of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, specially the COAS leadership in fighting terrorist Networks both sides of Pak-Afghan border.

Appreciating longstanding Pak-US defense cooperation, Senator McCain emphasized need to further reinforce this partnership in view of emerging developments.

With clear regional security perspective, the COAS highlighted need for stepped up Pak-Afghan border management and sustained cooperation to deal with emerging threats.
