ISTANBUL, Turkey: President Mamnoon Hussain and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Thursday agreed to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey in diverse areas including defense, economy, energy, infrastructure and science and technology.

President Mamnoon Hussain and the Turkish Prime Minister who met here on the sidelines of the 13th Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said terrorism was a huge threat and there was a need to have a joint strategy to tackle this menace.

They were unanimous in the view that the countries from Islamic world should address their differences through talks.

They said the close, warm and brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Turkey served as an example for other Muslim nations.

The two leaders also called for further strengthening and broadening the Pak-Turkish ties.

President Mamnoon and the Turkish Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that the two countries had similarity of views on various regional and international issues and they supported each other on international fora.

The President thanked Turkey for its active role in the OIC’s Contact Group on Kashmir.

The two leaders also agreed that the current level of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Turkey did not commensurate with the level of strong political relations and needed to be enhanced through effective measures.

The President said Turkish entrepreneurs and businessmen could invest in different sectors of Pakistan including energy and infrastructure projects.

Prime Minister Davutoglu assured President Mamnoon Hussain that the government of Turkey would encourage the Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan.

The President thanked the Turkish leadership and their government for warm reception in Turkey.
