ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Spokesperson to Prime Minister Dr Musadik Malik has said that government was committed to implement Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

Speaking in Radio Pakistan’s News and Current affairs program he said the liquefied national gas (LNG) deal being signed with Qatar would take care of one fourth of the country’s gas requirements.

He said Pakistan had also got one of the lowest rates for LNG import from Qatar.

Former ambassador Mushtaq Ahmed Mehr said, Qatar was also the member of Gulf Cooperation Council and had developed a lot during the past 20 years.

Referring to the tremendous progress made by Qatar, he remarked, it was among the most developed countries in Middle East.

Pakistan had strong bilateral relations with Qatar and there was a great demand of Pakistani manpower in Qatar, he added.

Present government was making serious efforts to improve economy of              the country and Qatar could play a significant role in this regard, he added.

Economist Dr. Shahid Hassan Siddiqui said, Qatar was an Islamic state and a neighbouring country of Pakistan as well.

Pakistan was planning to import LNG from Qatar and for this purpose Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was visiting Qatar.

As petroleum prices in international markets had been reduced, he said adding so Pakistan would sign a short-term agreement with Qatar for the import of LNG.

The Prime Minister’s visit would definitely result in improvement in bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar, he maintained.

Both the countries would promote energy cooperation, trade and investment, defence and increase in employment opportunities for the Pakistani workforce in Qatar, he observed.
