Foreign OfficePakistan targeting terror outfits without any discrimination: FO

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Thursday once again emphatically stated that Pakistan is taking action against all the terrorist groups without any distinction.

The statement comes as the Pentagon decided not to provide Pakistan $300 million in military reimbursements under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF), alleging that Pakistan was not taking adequate action against the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani network.

“The funds could not be released to the Government of Pakistan at this time because the Secretary (US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter) has not yet certified that Pakistan has taken sufficient action against the Haqqani network,” the Pentagon Spokesman Adam Stump said on Wednesday.

In his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria reminded that Pakistan has suffered more than any other country in the war on terror both in terms of human and economic losses. He said that 60,000 people including 6,000 security personnel have lost their lives in this war.

Zakaria said that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb has seen a resounding success due to which last bastions of terrorists in the tribal areas have been cleared.

The spokesman said that Pakistan will continue its fight against terrorism with firm resolve and determination and will ensure that the cleared areas do not slide back to the terrorists.

In reply to a question about the proscription of Jamaat-e-Ahrar by the United States, the foreign office spokesperson said that Pakistan welcomes the decision.

Nafees Zakaria said that Pakistan has long been pleading to take concrete action against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other groups which are perpetrating attacks in Pakistan while operating from Afghanistan.
