Pakistan to support Afghanistan’s peaceful endeavors: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has assured Afghanistan that it will stand by Kabul and support its peaceful endeavors as both the countries are facing challenges of terrorism and extremism.

“I reaffirm peaceful stable Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s interest,” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in a joint press conference along with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in Islamabad on Saturday following their meeting.

The prime minister said that both the countries have historic opportunity to work together, based on understanding and closed cooperation.

Sharif said that they face formidable challenges including terrorism, security, environment and transnational crimes. He said that we could only meet them by exploiting the full potential of cooperation collectively.

Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed support for intra Afghan reconciliation process, saying this should be fully Afghan-led and Afghan owned.

The joint press conference took place after formal talks were held between the countries which reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations.

Sharif led the Pakistani delegation in the talks while the Afghan side was led by its president.

The two sides held threadbare discussions on way and means to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse fields including security, trade and economy.
