ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Tuesday decided to enhance defence cooperation at a meeting held at the Ministry of Defence Production.

According to a press release here, the understanding was reached during a call on of High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Major General (retd) Jayanath Lokuketagodage to Federal Minister of Defence Production (MoDP) Rana Tanveer Hussain.

They exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and enhancing cooperation in defence production.

“Pakistan has always proposed futuristic defence cooperation to Sri Lanka. As one of the largest suppliers of high-tech defence equipment, Pakistan played important role in assisting Sri Lanka to defeat terrorism,” Rana Tanveer said.

They discussed that Pakistan has offered a lot to Sri Lanka in terms of defence products. The cooperation ranges from small arms to heavy arsenal.

Rana Tanveer suggested means to resolve the issue of financial constraints on part of Sri Lanka, which were impeding the country to buy heavy products.

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Major General (retd) Jayanath acknowledged that Pakistan always helped Sri Lanka especially at the time when his country was facing embargoes.
