UFA, Russia: Pakistan and Russia have said that they attach great importance to relations with each other and emphasized the need to enhance these bilateral ties.
It happened when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Russia on the sidelines of the 15th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Ufa.
During the meeting, both the leaders held a discussion over various issues of mutual interest. They also reviewed the progress in a number of projects especially in the energy sector.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with the Russian Federation and is keen to enhance these relations,” Sharif told Putin during the meeting.
The prime minster said that Pakistan wants a multi-dimensional relationship with Russia in the fields of trade, defence, energy, infrastructure, culture and other spheres.
Earlier on Friday, Pakistan was granted full membership of to the SCO by its Council of Heads of State at the summit
Sharif said that Pakistan is thankful to the Russian Federation for its support to Pakistan’s entry into SCO as a full member.
On the occasion, President Putin congratulated the prime minister on the launching of formal accession of Pakistan to SCO.
Putin also said that Russia attaches importance to its relations with Pakistan and would like to further enhance them, particularly in the economic domain.
