Pakistan reviewing its relations with Russia, CA countries: President Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan is reviewing its relations with Russia and Central Asian States to boost trade ties with them.

The president made these remarks while addressing a certificate award ceremony of 16th National Security Workshop held at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad on Saturday

Pakistan and Russia after a long history of bilateral turbulence appear to have initiated a new era of cooperation.

“Pakistan considers Russia as an important global player which can play a crucial role in the regional stability and development,” the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam had said at press briefing in Islamabad on November 20.

The foreign office spokesperson had said that Pakistan’s relations with Russia were moving in upward trajectory.

A defence cooperation agreement between Pakistan and Russia signed last month during the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu’s visit to Islamabad also marked an important shift in relations between the two countries.

In his address at the NDU, the president further said that Pakistan wants to have close relations with all its neighbors and resolve issues through meaningful dialogue.

The president said that the national security has become a complex and multifaceted task and required strategic framework that encompasses all the segments of the society.

“We should keep in view international and regional aspects while formulating national security policy,” he said.

Mamnoon Hussain said that under the vision 2025 different programmes have been started with the cooperation of different countries that shows our relations are improving with the rest of the world.
