Pakistan rejects criticism on executions

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has rejected the criticism by the International organizations on executions it has resumed recently, saying it is its internal affair.

In his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said that executions being carried out across Pakistan for all convicted of capital offenses come under the parameters of international law.

His remarks came in response to a statement issued on Thursday by the European Union delegation mission to Pakistan which demanded the government of Pakistan to reinstate the moratorium on death penalty and fully respect all of its international obligations.

The statement further said that the EU is opposed to capital punishment in all cases and has consistently called for its universal abolition.

The foreign office spokesman also said that Pakistan is a peace loving country but will take every step to ensure protection of its interests and integrity.

“Pakistan knows how to deal with any threat and has the capacity to respond anyone in befitting manner,” he said.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address at the Dhaka University during his recent visit to Bangladesh accused Pakistan of creating “nuisance” and “constantly” troubling India by promoting terrorism. He also admitted that his country was involved in the breaking of East Pakistan which eventually led to the creation of Bangladesh.

In addition, the Indian Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in a statement on Wednesday threatened to carry out air strikes in Pakistani territory like their armed forces did in Myanmar.

Qazi Khalilullah condemned the threatening statements of Indian leaders and said the issue will be taken before the United Nations and all other international forums. He said that these threats have exposed real face of India which claimed to be a secular state.

In reply to a question, he spokesman said that Pakistan considers the enemies of Afghanistan as its own enemies and will never allow anyone to use its soil against Afghanistan.

The spokesman said that Pakistan enjoys cordial ties with Afghanistan and expressed the confidence that these relations will further flourish in future.

Moreover, he said that both the countries have agreed to not allow anyone to use their soils against each other.
