PakistanPakistan one of the world's largest hosts for refugees: Oxfam

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: With limited resources, Pakistan still hosts the largest number of refugees in the world along with Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, South Africa and held Palestine, revealed Oxfam International.

A research study conducted by Oxfam international stated that Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Lebanon, South Africa including the held Palestine host more than 50 per cent of the world’s refugees and asylum seekers, despite the fact they account for fewer than two per cent of the world’s economy, reported private news channel.

The six richest countries in the world host less than nine per cent of refugees; however they make more than half of the world’s economy.

Surprisingly, underdeveloped countries are sharing most of the responsibility in this matter. This means a major gap between poorer and richest countries providing hosting refugees still exists, Oxfam’s analysis said.

The United States (US), China, Japan, Germany, France and the United Kingdom took 2.1 million refugees and asylum seekers during 2015 which makes only 8.88 per cent of the total in the world.

Recently, Germany has started hosting more refugees than the other richest nations.

Oxfam called on the world to host more refugees and to help the developing countries sheltering the major section of refugees.
