ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that Pakistan was keen to implement Central Asia and South Asia CASA-1000 project and stressed to bring bilateral trade between Pakistan and Tajikistan to US $ 500 million.

The Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that relations between the two countries were making progress in all areas including energy, trade and defence.

He was talking to Chairman Majlisi Namoyandagon of Tajikistan Zuhurov Shukurjon who called on him at the PM House, said a press release.

Warmly welcoming the Chairman, the Prime Minister said that excellent relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan were deeply rooted in history, religion and common culture.

Parliamentary relations played an important part in improving relations between the two countries, he added.

Highlighting Pakistan’s endeavours for regional peace and stability, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan had reached out to its neighbours for sake of peace and stability in the region.

“Pakistan has a vital stake in peace, stability and development in Afghanistan and we have been engaged in sincere and consistent efforts for promoting peace and reconciliation through Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process with a view to bringing lasting peace in Afghanistan,” the Prime Minister said.

Chairman Majlisi Namoyandagon of Tajikistan Zuhurov Shukurjon lauded Prime Minister’s vision of peaceful relations with neighbours and acknowledged Pakistan’s sincere and consistent efforts for promoting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

The Chairman said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s stand was very clear and his policy and vision were commendable.

The Tajik delegation included Azizmuhammad Kholmuhammadzoda (MP), Jamshed Murtazoquiov (MP), Mrs. Nasiba Sodiqova (MP), Mirzoanvar Akhmedov (MP), and Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan Sherali S. Jononov. Speaker National Assembly Sardar Muhammad Ayaz Sadiq, Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi and Member National Assembly Muhammad Talal Chaudry were also present during the meeting.
