Pakistan, Iran leaders to meet in Tehran soon to decide on IP gas pipeline

SIALKOT: A meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will be held soon in Tehran to decide about the fate of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

This was stated by Iranian Consul General in Lahore Muhammad Hossain Bani Asadi during a meeting with businessmen at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The consul general said that under the agreement signed by the two countries, Iran had laid 950 km long pipeline but unfortunately Pakistan had done nothing on its part due to unknown reasons.

Asadi said that three years would be needed to complete the project after Pakistan started work on its side.

Moreover, he said that a meeting of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission will be held in Tehran next month during which the two countries would try to solve trade-related problems.
